The other day I was talking with a few other local photographers about how digital cameras are cheap and now everyone is a photographer, so why pay more when your neighbor just bought a sweet DSLR and could totally do it cheaper?

The day before I had another photographer friend tell me about a conversation she had with a client whose wedding photos were taken by a “neighbor with a sweet camera” for much less. She also said that the photos weren’t what she was hoping they would be and is now doing a mock shoot to hopefully recover some of the moments that were lost on the wedding day.

Now I’m not trying to be a Debbie Downer on this Monday morning, but just wanted to share that it DOES HAPPEN. When it does, most of the time those memories can’t be recovered. You might remember this post about wedding photos ruined, but during our discussion we were having someone posted THIS article about the difference between a cheap haircut vs paying a little bit more. It’s a great story.

It’s all about the angles baby.

For those of you who don’t know who Buster is – he is Boise State University’s mascot.

An opportunity arose yesterday for me to be able to be Buster in a BSU Alumni video to be used on campus. I thought that it would be fun to say that I was Buster for a day so I jumped on the opportunity.

I had been the mascot a few times in high school and had a total blast so I knew I would have fun doing a Zumba class in the attire. Here are some of my favorite photos.

I’m pretty sure I was doing the sprinkler here because I have sweet dancing skills. I know that you’re jealous.

….and I was spent.

Heather was originally wearing the suit for some cardio machine and lifting shots. She was nice enough to share him with me. Here are some shots with her in the Buster suit.

Overall it was a ton a fun and I’d do it again any day. I missed my calling. I would have totally done this in college. PS. Thank you to Boise State Campus Recreation for letting me steal a couple photos from their Facebook Page.

Since November I’ve been blogging every single day. I’m here to tell you that I’m burnt out on it. It is fun but lately it has been a chore.

Starting today-  I’m done with the project. I’ll blog when I feel like it and when I have good stuff to post.

My cousin took this picture during a family bbq last week. It made me happy. This is my husband, my dad, and I. My two best guys.

I don’t own a macro lens. On my film camera I had one, but I can’t bring myself to buying one for this one because I have so many other things I would like to purchase. I came across this article and decided to try it out. Doesn’t hurt anything right?

I decided to grab my wedding ring and try it out a little bit. I was actually pretty surprised by the results. The photos aren’t super crisp, but I’m pretty happy with the way they look.

PS. I know my sensor is dirty. I ordered something to fix it so I’m waiting for it to arrive.

As per the job, I’m generally behind the camera.

This week my cousin was in town from Missouri and as a bribe to get her down here I had promised that upon arrival we would head out and do a photo shoot. It had been forever since I had been up to Tablerock and I knew I could get some dramatic photos (which I will be sharing with you this week). We trekked up there in the 100 degree heat.

Before leaving I decided I wanted my cousin to snap a couple photos of me up there. After a quick camera lesson, we had some success.

I was MIA yesterday. It’s been a crazy week but I have lots of fun photos to share next week. Here is a cell phone of my cousin and I. She is in town for the week and we were able to enjoy some fondue last night.

When I first started college I met a person who introduced me to Yoga. I was always interested in it, but never had pursued it. She showed me a couple beginner dvds and I started doing it every night. Fell in love with it.

I think it was about 2 years after doing it every night my schedule completely changed and I stopped doing yoga because I didn’t have the time for it.

About 8 weeks ago my friend Heather talked me into joining a Friday am yoga class with her. I’m so glad that I did because it reminded me how much I miss yoga. It happens every time I do it, but with this being an 8 week class I was bound to really get back into it.

So this back story brings me to today. I went to go look in my little library of books (which is pretty much 90% about food and health) and a couple books caught my eye that I forgot I had. I grabbed both of them and opened them up.

The first one is called Yoga Anatomy.

It basically breaks down a few different poses and shows you the muscles that are used. It goes into the science and physiology of your body and yoga.  It’s only about 221 pages cover to cover, so it’s not a huge book. I found it helpful in understanding why we do certain poses and how to breath.

The other book I pulled out of my library was Yoga as Medicine.

This book is great because it targets different areas of the body for specific health benefits. This one is about 568 pages cover to cover. More resembles a college textbook but is broken down in different chapters for different areas of concentration. Part 1 is basic yoga philosophy, different areas yoga can help (ie stress and others). Part two explains safety, styles and how to get started. Part 3 is yoga in action. It breaks down into types of treatment (anxiety, arthritis, asthma, backpain, carpal tunnel, depression, headaches and the list goes on).

It obviously can’t cure diseases and certain medical conditions, but I truly believe that it can help reduce symptoms and make dealing with certain pain much easier. It’s a great alternative to dealing with these sorts of issues with before immediately turning medicine (if that is your thing, some people prefer the meds and that is fine).
